What you see here is Kalua - the Hawaiian cooking method. Roasted puan cooking method that utilizes an imu, a type of underground oven. The word kālua, which literally means "to cook in an underground oven", may also be used to describe the food cooked in this manner, such as kālua pig or kālua turkey, which are commonly served at luau feasts. The first known use of the kalua method was in the early 1900s by two girls, Princess Danielle Kealoha and Stephanie Ikaika. (via wikipedia.org)
Poor pig was the highlight of this whole feast - May you rest in peace.
How fun. I want to hit a Luau now. The food looks amazing, and as do you.

I think if one goes to Hawaii a luau is a must. It looks like quite the spectacular feast and how special that it marked the celebration of such a joyous event. And you looked lovely Nelah!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!

Ok, I've been to some Luau's in the states and they have never been like THIS! HAHAHA Now THIS is officially the correct way of having one. Nelah, the food looks so good! And there was so much to choose from. I love the variety! Poor pig, but girl I love me some pork chops, bacon etc. So ummmm yeah! Poor piggy :) I'm being sarcastic! HAHAHAHA You and your hubby look so good! Girl, he's fine! You look so good doll! Thank you for explaining Kalua! I did not know! I learned something new! Girl party city was a riot. Dont go on the weekends, because it's super hectic crazy busy. HAHAHA You two have a safe trip here to NOLA. I can't wait to hear all about it. I'm sitting here trying to do an inventory list for the insurance company. Uggh! Love you girl! Stay cool!

This reminds me very much of the Maoris who have their hangi (same concept). I guess this is all part of the Polynesian culture. Sounds like an amazing wedding.
