Okay ladies and gentlemen, I will send you off with this last post of 2011. It has been a memorable journey with up and down times on this little blog. I am just so glad this blog is up and running into its 2nd year – woo hoo!!! What will 2012 bring? I am looking forward to redefine what “52NewDays” is all about. From the very first moment I started out this blog in June 2010, I knew that I wanted to use this blog as a channel and tool to help rebalance my new mommy life, make more of my “me” moment and discover all the fun things I used to do before I had a child. Now that everything has fallen into its place with motherhood, career and time management, I want to redefine what this blog is about and which direction I want it to head to. This sounds like a soul searching journey, isn’t it?



Happy New Year to you all and hope your 2012 be filled with lots of love, success, good health, happiness and everything you wish for as well as peace and love for the world we are in.

I do not to talk about my profession here, not because I am an FBI agent. My job may not sound exciting due to the fact that it does not land me in a front row seat at the New York Fashion Week. Hello - I am in HR and have been in this career for 7 years.

Job interview is an undesirable subject for many people. Personally, I have never encountered a “job interview gone wrong” situation or the “worst” interview experience that traumatize or terribly embarrass myself to the core.

Why job interview is so frightening?

First, it indicates whether you will get a job or not. Pressure much?? No matter how great your resume is, your career opportunity may say bye-bye on this judging day.

Frightening factor # 2, you will be questioned on certain topics you have no idea about and the worst part - you don’t know how to answer wisely.

Frightening factor # 3, you are talking to a complete stranger who could be your potential employer. That can be quite intimidating and nerve wracking.


I have been a job hunter and an HR person. Now I am in a position that screens and passes on qualified candidates to the prospective hiring managers, and eventually repeat this “sorry, the position has been filled” many times. Keep in mind that just like everything else in this world, we learn from our mistakes. The more interviews you go to, the more experiences you will gain - thus you feel more comfortable with situation. Here are some tips I live by:


1) Study about a company and a position: nothing is worse than going to an interview and know nothing. You don’t necessarily have to know the inside and out but at least some basic knowledge.

2) Read job description carefully and try to relate your experiences with the position.

3) Dress for success: no matter how slouchy, relaxed or frugal you are, dress PROFESSIONALLY. It is not about trying to be someone else but is about being respectful to your potential employer. Keep things simple, clean and conservative.

4) Read some random interview questions and practice

5) Don’t freak out, you are not getting a death penalty. After all, it is a job interview.

6) Do not talk bad about your former employer/co-workers. Everything that comes out of your mouth portrays your attitude.

7) Take a deep breath, smile, stay positive, be energetic, show confidence, keep good eye contact, give a firm handshake, ask questions.

Fall and Winter are the perfect times for animal prints to come out to play. Back in February of this year, I bought this dress from the land of far far away land and carried it back to the US with the hope that it could shine when the time was right. Today it came out to play.

Christmas Wishes & GIVEAWAY to come~*

There were lots and lots and lots of presents and love under the tree and more. Christmas time is all about making new memories that will last our lifetime, and that the way it should be. I hope Santa brought you what you were hoping for this year and you had a lovely time with your loved ones.



Ever since my daughter was born, I felt that every Christmas becomes a whole lot more special. It was special before between the husband and I, yet having an addition makes Christmas so much fun in a very different way. The joy of seeing their anticipation & excitement in their eyes is priceless and fulfilling. This is the ONLY day in the year where I want more children, really .



There were all kinds of things under the Christmas tree - a car, a tweed jacket, some gift cards, kitchen utensils, clothes, doll, stuff animals and more. Yet our Christmas celebration is not quite over since not all family members could make it on Christmas day so we shall have another one on Tuesday to meet with my husband's two younger sisters. It is almost like a week long celebration because New Year's is just around the corner.

Oh $Money - Money~*

Here comes part II of "2011 $Financial Wrap-up" {here}. I have compiled some of my learning experiences through personal money management over the course of years which I hope you will find helpful or interesting.

Open separate bank accounts for different things: In addition to 401(k)), we have 1) an emergency saving account 2) a college saving fund for our little one 3) a taxes saving account (we pay an annual M.U.D. tax where we live plus a Homeowner Association Fee). Next year, I plan to open two more: 4) “emergency repair saving” for unexpected costs such as repairs on appliances/vehicles and things around the house 5) “Christmas shopping account”.

I find this to work really well for us to have money saved up for specific things without having to dip our hands in a main emergency saving. Okay now, you may think that my husband and I make shit load of money so that we have this many saving accounts to save our wealth. Hell no. We are very far from being a millionaire but we try to pay ourselves first and put some money into those savings. Small amounts add up over time.


Start saving when you are young: I started contributing to 401(k) at 25 years old at my very first formal employment in the US and am still continuing to do so up to this day. Saving at early age enables you to get ahead of the game. People manage their money differently and have different goal sets in lives. Some choose to splurge on luxurious items, some save up for big ticket item like a house, some choose vacation/travel. I was a proud home owner at 27 years old and couldn’t be happier. Whatever it is, set your goals and start saving.



Avoid buying during your first visit: I get excited easily so I have to slap my face, stop and think through on what I “really, really, really, really” want and the “true practicality” of any purchase. I have been into designer handbags this year and was on a close call in bringing home new babies from my favorite boutique on two separate occasions. It was very close!!!


I set myself a rule not to buy anything over $500 during my first visit to avoid buyer’s remorse for that reason. An excitement of seeing brand new and glorious items on shelves and pressure from some helpful/pushy SAs may contribute to a very unhappy purchase. Based on my experiences with two bags, I made at least 2 trips and took all the time I wanted with many deep thoughts. Don’t let that first impression or excitement blindside you because you may end up paying a huge price tag on something you do not truly love.



Use cash as a primary spending method. I have never been in debt in my entire life and will never want to based on what I see and hear other people’s horror stories. We do have one main credit card (not counting gas cards) which we regularly use to gain points and pay it off the next month in its entirely – no outstanding balance. It can be difficult to keep track with credit card spending but what I find to work best is “every time you use your credit card, instantly transfer money to save to pay for it later”. It is important to document…document and document your spending in some form to because it is so easy to forget what you had bought a week ago. You bet - I also have another saving account which I call “Credit card saving” for this. I transfer money from my checking account to this Credit card saving account everytime we use a credit card.

Quality/practicality over quantity. In the past, I can’t even tell you how many small little things I blew money over. They were inexpensive, they were trendy, they were cute but don’t talk about quality or usefulness. Over times, the costs added up. Those items turned to junk and eventually went on to the landfill. I learn to think through my purchases many many times regardless how cheap it is. One dollar..two dollars…if it is not practical or will not add or give any value such as a statue that will just sit there collecting dust, I won’t buy. With that said, I am able to avoid so many unnecessary items/craps and stick to the “less is more”. I have begun to appreciate the concept of minimalism but we shall see how long this will last..haha.

Unsubscribe from retailer mailing list: this year I have waved bye-bye to about 8 of them so far and plan to unsubscribe them all. Good grief, you have no idea how many emails I have received from ToyRUS since November. Some days I got 5 freaking emails from them especially when Christmas is near. I mean 5 in a period of 24 hours!!!!!

These promotional emails really work on weak-minded individuals. The tone of email aims to influence you, rush you to buy and get you to think that you “actually” save some money. How about not buying at all? That is even better I say. Coupons and discounts work exactly the same way. We don’t even need anything but go out to buy just to use the coupons so that we feel that we do something good. In fact, we don’t. Let me illustrate: you have a $10 coupon of a minimum $30 purchase. You don’t really need anything at that particular store but go in anyway and start buying just to qualify for $10 discount. Yeah..so much for saving money.

2011 $Financial Wrap-up

December and January are always the good time to get our financial check-up and revisit what matters most. So lately I have been thinking about numbers, numbers, numbers, numbers and more numbers for the most part as what to expect in 2012 –such as savings (for emergency, for a child and etc), major spending and emergency expenses.

It can be difficult to foresee the financial situations over the course of months but I always like to be on the safe side by trying to keep some money in an emergency saving account for rainy days which you never know when, given that we are in today’s challenging economy. Before I go on with my story, I have to tell you that I am a CFO (Chief Financial Officer) of our household who foresees and manages every single dollar of the incoming and outgoing $$$$. The husband and I both work full time.

Being in a position that I am, a CFO, sometimes I let the thought and fear of “uncertainty and job insecurity” get the worst out of me. You look around, see or hear people losing their jobs all over the country and literally freak out. Recently I heard a story of a coworker who left the company not too long ago because she found a new and hopeful career in an oil and gas industry (which is booming here once again by the way). A month later, she got laid off!! She was there just for a few weeks!!! Now she is out of work and looking for an employment. Dang - talking about an uncertainty here.


A minimum of six month emergency saving used to be a stardard to go by but now they (those financial experts/analysts) are talking about a year’s worth of emergency saving! Are you kidding me?! I have already had enough challenge with six month’s worth of saving, my goodness. It almost seems like you have to keep up with an inflation and weak dollars as you go. Since I am the kind of gal who would rather have money in the bank, I choose to put more stress in my life and save as much as I could.



Until recently I asked myself “Is this the life I want to live?”. I don’t want the stress of saving to take the joy in life away. At the same time, I can’t bear the thought of blowing the hard earned money I have saved for years to satisfy my material needs.

Everything has to be in moderation, I need to find that balance. Hello – Mr. Balance..where are you buddy?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!?!?! I can’t find you.


Every year I learn something new on financial perspectives from my own successes and failures with personal money management. I am not a financial expert and I learn from trial and error. There are some major lesson learned in the area of spending / saving which I am happliy sharing them with you tomorrow in my Part II. Stay tuned.

Under the Christmas Tree~**

Thank goodness for a convenience and time saving of online shopping, you have saved my day this year! Our main gifts buying method is exclusively on the www for the sake of not having to hustle and buzzle along side with hundred other shoppers at the stores or risk a chance of not finding what we are looking for. And talking about the big plus, it is so incredibly easy to compare prices from one site to another with a click of a mouse. I am loving an online shopping now more than ever and ever!! On a surprising note, ToyRUs is not a good place to buy toys because most of their items mark up higher than other retailers such as Target and Walmart. Last year we exclusively bought EVERYTHING from ToyRUs for our little one because we shopped just a few days before Christmas (so much for being prepared) and did not have the time or sanity to go from place to place. Lesson learned, people!!

I don’t know about you but holiday shopping can be really overwhelming given that the mall is extra crowded and temptations are everywhere around this time. The sights, the scenes and the excitements of holiday season are great and I like that - but I find myself wandering aimlessly or end up buying something I hadn’t planned on buying. Advanced planning and online shopping are the way to go.


Now everything else under this line will not be under our magic tree, they are only in my imagination.

Bloggers Rock the Colors of Christmas~**

A few weeks ago I received a lovely invitation from a fabulous Collette of Statements in Fashion to participate in a "Bloggers Rock the Colors of Chritmas" link up by wearing the Christmas color of your chice (red, green, white, gold, silver and blue). Since I am all about experimenting with colors these days, why not jumping on the bandwagon and celebrating this season in colors? Of course I chose a striking red from Express which I bought on Black Friday and paired ith with a black/gray leopard blouse, plus an ivory colored fur vest. A mix of texture / color and pattern is fun and upbeat with a splash of glamourous factor from a faux fur vest. Are you ready to party!?!?






On a side note, I am still very much alive and well. A brief period of disappearance from blog world sure was nice. If you happened to stop by a few times and didn't see any updates in the past few weeks and thought I may have alrady called it quit - not just YET. Da b*tch is back. Glam Night: Fur, White Dress & Red Soles

What is the common color that people wear to the party? Black, black and black - you bet. Black attire is overrated at times in my opinion. The other night, my husband and I braced a chilly weather and went to my company's Annual Holiday Party at a hotel. At first, my plan was to wear a little black dress but I changed my mind as of last minute as I was browsing through a tiny of dresses in my closet. I came across this little white dress which I purcahsed in Bangkok earlier this year but completely forgot about it (what's new, right?) While most people went for a classic black color, I was picking an opposite shade and totally loving it. This ensemble turnede out exactly the way I visioned it - clean, sophisticated, fun, bright and chic.

Don't get me wrong, they didn't only serve desserts at the party but hey desserts are alwasy the hightlight of the meal course and they looked pretty. By the time an entree arrived, I was too hungry and couldn't care less about taking a photo.

Express Ultimate Columnist Double Weave Pants in Fantasia Blue

I am all about bright and bold colors as of late. No surprise when I saw these Express pants, I ordered two immediately in Fantasia Blue and Mars Red on Black Friday since they offered 40% off on everything. My last Express pants purchases were since last year so it was about time. I have always loved pants at Express because of its sexy silhouette, sleek & modern design and they create this amazing effect that make your legs look longer. The best part, they come in small sizes that fit shorter ladies like myself (just wish more styles/colors are available in 00S). However, their prices are on the high side - at about $80 a pair but I personally never buy at regular price. Thank god, they often have coupon or great offer like buy one get a second pair 50% off or etc.

This particular style is made of 49% Polyester/47% Cotton/4% Spandex (the older columnist I bought last year had more cotton and much thicker than this version). It is Low rise, slim fit, barely boot leg. Big plus, machine washable!!!! One thing I learn, it may not be a good choice to wear with knee high boots as the fabric gathers up above the boots and kind of ruins the look. I have to constantly smooth out the pants. It is better worn with heels. The lenght is perfect given that I am almost 5'2", it is a tad bit loose around the waist but I can deal with that.

No more "Bah Humbug"~*

Thanksgiving flew by as if it did not even happen – at least that’s how I felt. On that Turkey day, I didn’t even feel like Thanksgiving despite the fact that I stuffed my face with a variety of scrumptious Thanksgiving dishes like there was no tomorrow. So now Christmas is near, I know I have to get myself up to the speed and get in a Christmas mood. My husband knows how lazy and not-so-fun I can be at decorating for holidays.



….Halloween – no decoration….



….Thanksgiving – no decoration…



….Christmas – almost no decoration…



If not because he brought down a tree and those ornaments from an attic and laid them all over the living room, “Bah Humbug” would be written all over my face and body folks!



The very first year I arrived in the US, my excitement went up the roof and shot up to the sky. You know in Thailand, the majority of the population is buddhist so we don’t celebrate Christmas in our household let alone having a Christmas tree in our houses (except at major hot spots or shopping malls around town that decorate for festive vibe). My first Christmas in the US was without our own tree, since we still lived in a teeny tiny apartment we didn’t have an urge to buy one. I went and helped my in-laws decoreated theirs instead. After we moved into a house and had a bigger space a few years later, we finally bought our first tree from Michael’s which we still use today. Somehow my excitement dies down a bit and my laziness has taken over..blah..blah..blah.







This past weekend, I pulled a trigger and got that evil lazy spirit out of me. Believe it or not people?? I decorated!!! My soon-to-be three year old little girl helped decorate our Christmas tree. She did a great job even though she lined up all the ornaments at the very very bottom in a perfect straight line and broke a few already. It is the memory that counts. I even made a video that I know I will cherish for years to come.

Nelah's Crazy Little Dream List~*

When we are in December, first thing that comes to most people mind is "Christmas present". It wil be very appropriate to present you with my dream list. I mean who cares what Nelah wants, right? but I will do it anyway for the fun of it. This list is strictly a "dream" list which most likely will not come true anytime soon or never but we all can dream and play "what-if I won a lottery" game. Once you are done reading mine, share what are on your list.

1) First class plane tickets for a family of 3 to Bangkok, preferbly on Emirates: okay that will probably cost like $xx,xxx. Just a tad bit more expensive than Economy seats. Boy oh boy, have you seen first class seats on Emirates??!?!? What a dream comes true for a long haul travel. Sitting in a not so confortable economy seat for a total of 20+ hours makes my butt and back hurt badly.

2) A Dog: we currently have two cats that my husband rescued several years ago but thinking about adding a dog to a family instead of having a second child (okay now you think what the heck).

We are not in a serious stage though and the most important part is that my husband and I can NOT agree on which type of dog to get. Thank god, we both like big dogs. I mean "BIG".

Do you want to hear what my dream dogs are? I give you 10 seconds to guess...............tick..tok..tick..tok..............Time is up!! 1) German Sherperd 2) Doberman Pinsher 3) Rotwieler . Okay now you are thinking I am crazy and why in the world I want a killer dog. I love "mean looking" dog and that is my only answer. I have ALWAYS dreamt of owning a German Sherperd ever since I was a little girl. In my neighborhood back home in Thailand, I often saw this German Sherperd everytime I walked past that house and I just fell in love at how beautiful that dog was. My next two choices are such great guard dogs for my little one and I love how they look. No one will ever want to come close..haha. Of course, we will want to get a puppy so they can grow up together.

On the other hand, my husband totally wants a "Great Dane!!!!". I think that is just a tad bit too big. We can never settle on a choice so it doesn't look like we will have a dog. We might as well have a second child.

3) A Baby-sitter who will be available at anytime: Yeah.. .dream on

4) A maid

5) A fushia Birkin, a large Lady Dior in black and a red m/l Chanel flap. I don't only want one, but three under a Christmas tree!!!

Flight Attendant Style & Beauty Blog Roundup

No, I am not a flight attendant. And no, this is not a flight attendant's uniform. Okay, I don't know why but I almost always relate scarves with flight attendants of those Asian's airlines. I guess I can say that in some way I draw an inspiration from them to create this look (including the hair). What I like the most about this outfit is the burst of bold colors on a scarf. They provide such great contrast on a solid dark color outfit like this chocolate brown top. So my next question is "What would you like to drink sir/ma'am?"

On a quick fact note, I used to worked briefly for a Hong Kong based airline (Cathay Pacific) before moving to the US.

Here is a list of both old and newly found talented bloggers that I highly recommend, they are the rising stars.



It’s Always Summer on the Inside (England): Nadia is drop dead gorgeous, literally she can be a beauty queen. She does product reviews (mainly high end brands such as Chanel, YSL and etc) along with awesome outfit posts and random hauls.

Bang Bang She Shoots (Japan): Nic Nic is a British born Chinese living in Tokyo. You bet, she reviews a lot of beauty products including Asian brands. Sometimes she will throw in some cute outfit posts as well.

PrettyMaking (US): Mandy is a freelance makeup artist. I find that her makeup is youthful and very edgy. Her smokey looks are pretty awesome, you should check out her Halloween costume and makeup.

The Makeup Edition (Australia): Stacey ALWAYS blows me away with her colorful and stunning eye makeups. Out of all beauty bloggers I have seen, I think she does the best eye makeups. I really wish she lived next door, I would offer her my face as a test subject.

Handbags and Fashion Rags (England): Parveen provides very thorough product reviews. She is a beauty herself. I thought she looks somewhat similar to Victoria Beckham but much more beautiful and youthful. Her taste in fashion and choice of accessories are impeccable. I only discovered her blog a month ago but have already been hooked, can’t wait to see what she has to share.
