I love products that work regardless of the price tag. It can be anything from drugstore to the high end counter at Neiman Marcus, I will be happy to use them as long as they are effective. Below are three items I have been using for over 6 months now and absolutely love them that I need to share if you haven't tried them already. Lip Balm
I am always on the lookout for a moisturizing lip balm that truly moisturizes my chapped lips for years. Burt's Bees...Chap Stick...Carmex...Blistex...EOS...Nivea, you name it - I have tried them all without success excpet for Vaseline but I am sick of using it. My lips still look crappy and dry as hell. Until 6 months ago, heaven answered my prayer. I stumbled upon a never-heard-of brand hanging lonely on a shelf at Walgreen. At that time, I was shopping for personal beauty products to pack in my backpack for the trip to Thailand and a lip balm was a must-have item. So I thought why not? It turns out to the best lip balm that is highly effective and doesn't leave the sticky feeling or yucky taste on your lips. It glides on smoothly and feels light yet moisturizing. I have been using this for 6 months and totally swear by it. The big plus, it has an SPF15! The scent is subtle and very pleasant and boy oh boy it is only $2.99 a pop.

[Image from St.Ives' website] It is not easy to find scrub that will not irritate my skin. Everything seems to irritate the heck out of my skin - baking soda included. So I always steer clear from using scrub for that matter. It was my misunderstanding that having a very dry skin, you didn't need to exfoliate your skin because it only made your skin drier. Totally wrong! Exfoliation helps remove dead cells and flaky skin to reveal the goodness underneath. I find this St. Ives scrub to be quite gentle enough to use it a few times per week. Its scent is pleasant, not overpowering. Best of all, not abrasive as if you rub a sanpaper against your face. Body Moisturizer

I have never spent more than $10 on a body lotion because I personally think it is excessive and too expensive. Jergens has always been my go-to brand for several years simply because I don't really like to explore new options when it comes to body lotion (unlike facial products). It was not until this past winter, Jergens could no longer rescue my flaky skin. Bottle after bottle, it didn't seem to work so it sure was time to switch. This Deep Restoring formula was not the first choice I picked fron St. Ives, I think I went for an Intensive Healing formula which didn't do any good for me. So after the Intensive bottle was emtpy, I thought I gave them another try by picking up the most moisturizing formula they offer. This time around, it works like a charm. I highly recommend this formula for those with dehydrated dry skin or to use during winter months only. Its texture is thick but absorbs well, it totally gets rid of flaky skin. Great for certain areas of your body like hands/knees/elbows and neck. I always lather my hands with this because your hands are the first sign people can tell how old you are. So lather it on babe. The skin on my hands probably looks more youthful than my face..lol. I find the smell to be subtle but am wondering what the heck some people were complaning about on an overpowering odor. What?!? I don't find it too strong or anything but that's just me. I am on my second bottle and will continue to purchase as long as they make it. I got mine at a grocery store which offers even lower price than drug store like less than $5, scored!! Disclaimer: I purchased these products with my own money and am not affiliated with the companies/products mentioned in this post. My opinions are 100% of my own.
good products!
ReplyDeletedon't you love it when you find awesome products that doesn't ruin your bank account? i've recently disassociated price with quality since my skin freakouts and i now understand that expensive doesn't necessarily mean better.
ReplyDeletei, too, have dry lips and have been struggling trying to find better lip products and since i started using this natural peppermint lip oil (night treatment) and natural lip balm (for the day if i need it), my lips soft and supple and i'm not applying lip balm every 5 seconds!
I know what you mean. I gave up after trying a few lip balms. Ok, a LOT! NOt sure whether Walgreen is available here but I'll google it later. A friend of mine swears by Burt's Bees tinted lip balm. It's quite expensive here for a lip balm.
ReplyDeletei used the st. ives for years but now i been using this japanese called The Cure which is really nice too, I got it from a friend so I really dont know how much it is.
ReplyDeleteI dont buy expensive lotion for my body but I would spend a lil more for my face. I am now scared of getting wrinkles and getting old haha
Sometimes it's amazing how the least costly stuff suits the individual's skin most.
ReplyDeleteohhhhh i will definitely be checking out the st. ives body lotion!! my hands actually started cracking this past winter living in germany it was SOOOO cold here!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your drugstore finds! I'm totally with you on just finding products that are effective no matter the price. I definitely need to check out Lypsyl. I'm like a total lip balm junkie and have at least 5 lip treatments in rotation at any time lol. My fave is Kiehls No. 1 lip balm btw. I'm also a fan of that St. Ives lotion. They had a 2 for $6 deal at my drugstore recently so I stocked up :) The smell doesn't really bother me either.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend Nelah!

ReplyDeleteHey Nelah! My mom loves St. Ives. She's never tried the lotion, but loves all of their scrubs. I need a new "chapstick". I had a really good one by Avon, but used it all up. I am so gonna look for this brand at Walgreens. I'm just like you. It doesn't matter how inexpensive or expensive a product is, but I want it to work. Ok, maybe if it's too expensive I would definitely look for an alternative. LOL Hope you had a great weekend. Excellent review :D
