Okay..here I am with Petite Fashion Challenge # 1 by lovely Jean at ExtraPetite

The Challenge:
Create an outfit for weekend brunch with your girlfriends. The outfit must include one garment that is typically notorious for being a petite "don't." Such garments include: dresses, skirts, or pants that hit at the scary mid-calf length (not cute, cuffed jeans...I'm talking real capris) or below the knee, maxi dresses, full A-lined skirts, or wide-legged pants. If this is too much of a challenge for you, you can take the easy route too with stuff like horizontal stripes, huge prints, or a gigantic belt, or oversized items.
And I picked "a gigantic belt" and "a carpis", the width of the above belt is almost 2 inches and that capris hits mid-calf lenght (woo-hoo two items of diaster and my puffy face)
Ooops..crooked belt in the above picture. Honestly, I really have no idea whether this look is a "yes" or a total diaster. I think it is medicore. I didn't purchase that belt on a purpose, it came with a jacket and I had never used it until today. However, I do think that it would look better with shorts (but I dont' have any or else I would wear them). What do you think?
Carlos Santana shoes~~I didn't know he has his line but good for him lol. Would be perfect to wear to a Salsa dance class :D
The outfit looks nice on you!
ReplyDeleteThe shoe are really cute.
THis is such a creative way to stretch the items in your closet! Excellent job!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe would all probably look better in floor-length pants or shorts, but I think you pulled the capri look off quite nicely. The fact that the capris are black also slim/elongate a little more than say, chino or cargo capris! The swingy vest cinched by the belt gives off a carefree look. I like how you kept the colors simple with black and white.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the belt is too big for you at all...i have one that is about 3 inches sand I still love wearing it!
PS - guess what I got today? : ) : ) : ) Thank you so much for your thoughtful gesture. I can't wait to put something in it. I couldn't believe it...so personalized too!
Nelah, you did a great job with this challenge! I don't think the belt looks that large on you. It looks great belted over the vest:)

what a cute idea!~ I think you rock the challenge and look great in the fit. forget the rules!
ReplyDeleteYou pull it off quite well. The swingy vest helps balance out the cropped capris. I love the way you use your belt. BTW, I got something in the mail today too. Thanks so much for your thoughtfulness. You're such a sweet person. Have a great day! Today is my daughter's first day of kindergarten. I hope I can hold me tears when sending her off to the bus :(
ReplyDeleteNelah, this outfit looks very comfortable. You definitely pulled off the 'don't' pieces :).

I love the belt! I don't think I can pull this look off but you look great. I think capris actually look great on you, somehow they make me look really stumpy though.
ReplyDeleteI think it would help if we can see the heels on your shoes... the grass makes it look like you're wearing flats. But in any case, I think the belt is not a problem at all and you look great! :)
ReplyDeleteLooking great! The capris look excellent on you, probably because they're so nice and slim. And you wear a waist belt much better than I do. Like PetiteXXS, I'd love to see more of those shoes that are hiding in the grass! =)
ReplyDeleteI think this outfit does work on you, great job!
ReplyDeleteI really love gigantic belts! In fact, I have one even wider than the one you're wearing and I wear it so much (and hopefully I don't look like an idiot wearing it)! This white and black ensemble you put together is very chic, and I love the shoe b/c it adds some color and sparkle to the outfit. I do agree with you that it would look nice w/shorts too, or even some super skinny pants. I think Zara or H&M might have some that would fit you nicely, and for a good price!
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies for your encouragement. I am not totally in love with what I had on but the challenge was over (what a relief!). I have several pairs of capris pants, not that I look spectacular in them but they do not require much thinking. Just something that I throw on and get going. I think most participants overcame the challenge and I saw many that I like.
ReplyDeleteJean and Sydney@PLG: thanks for letting me know. Hope it survived the handling and came in one piece.
I think it was a really smart idea to have a wide belt to this outfit! If it was too skinny, it couldn't have given that much "oomph" to the outfit. I agree that you have to think more carefully about capris but they are totally doable like this outfit. =0P
