Feeling crafty~**

Please read the subject line carefully..feeling crafty, not crappy hehe.

Many people have no clue that I am capable of creating handmade gifts. Hey, I do have a creative side lol. Flower arrangements and craft projects are my most favourite things to do in my freetime (I love blog/web designs too). Both are great stress relievers and hobbies. I also used to dream of being a florist because I just love, love and love flowers. Would not it be nice if all you see are beautiful flowers everywhere everyday, not your grumpy co-workers?

I wish I were capable of sewing and making jewelry but I am far from being perfect in those departments so I will leave a needle and yarn in the hands of people who know how to use them beautifully. Sewing and tailoring are truly something that require years of experience, skills and lots of patience (which I do not really have).

Earlier this month I had an opportunity to put my crafting skills to the test since I had not done anything like this in a loooong time. I came across a very inspring post called Pay it Forward which I decided to post on my blog as well. It turned out to be a really good decision because I had a reason to get back into my craft projects. It is more fun to create something for someone else. So these are 4 of the the eight handmade gifts I made. Obviously, the first four bloggers already received them last week (for the other four lovely ladies, I haven't forgotten about ya).

I took this picture and realized that two "S"s are missing - oops (but I added them before it was shipped). My female cat especially loves Curls and Pearls creation, she just couldn't stop sniffing it.

It is always fun to create something from scratch and let my imagination run free. Amazingly, these hobbies give me a similar effect to the meditation. I feel calm, happy and relaxed.

Do you have a hobby? What is your favourite stress reliever (please don't say "shopping", dont' we all love that ;)?

  1. OMG Nelah.....good for you hunnie!! These are lovely:) There's nothing like a nice thoughtful handmade gift.....the sentiment is definitely from the heart, where it matters the most:)

I used to be BIGTIME into scrapbooking....had tons of pages published in magazines and idea books etc....then time just ran out, life got in the way:(

  2. I like my picture frame very much! Now I just need to find actual print-out photos to put in it. Thank you again for the thoughtful gift.

I guess my hobby used to be playing the piano...but it couldn't move with me to my tiny Boston apartment : (

  4. All the handmade gifts are beautiful and very personalized! I have thought about becoming a florist, too :). That dream might still become true one day. I like to be creative as well. Now that school has started again, I really don't find the time for this kind of leisure among other recreation plans. Happy being crafty :). About two months ago I also wrote a post about feeling crafty.

  6. Collette: wow, I have no clue you were into scrapbooking. It is fun but very time consunming, isn't it? I started my scrapbooking (digital one) last year when my baby was born and I haven't finished it. It was meant to be Baby's 1st year but I guess it will end up being Baby's 1st two years (sigh). It is just hard with all the crazy schedules and work we all have these days.

Jean: I can totally picture you with a piano. I bet you are good too. You're welcome on the gift.

Ching: Thanks girl. I will try to keep it up as long as I can make time.

Sydney at PG: glad to meet another flowers lover. Yes I totally agree that it is hard to make time for leisure with all the busy schedules we have nowadays.

  9. Cute!

My hobbies... aren't really hobbies. I'm a freelance graphic designer at the moment, but I like to do some work on the side too -- designing character and toys.

I also goto the gym everyday and have been weight training -- maybe will compete one day. But we'll see. You don't see many petite girls walking around with bulging muscles. But I'm going for a more toned look.

With that said, I've been thinking about focusing my blog to workout outfits, and the reviews on them. What do you guys think about a fashion/review blog for petite athletes?

  13. These are so, SO cute! I love them! I wish I could be crafty like that but I'm just not at all crafty. Not at all.

I typically read blogs to de-stress and unwind! Or attempt watching TV but that doesn't seem to happen much anymore.

  14. They are really pretty! I love creating stuffs too but I'm too lazy to do it :p

  15. Nelah - you are so good at crafty things like this (I am the exact opposite)...you are inspiring me to do something nice for people too, except I am terrible at making things with my hands. I do know photoshop and dreamweaver so if anyone ever needs anything I'd be more than happy to help.

I run to de-stress. Most people hate sweating but exercise is really such a relief. I feel great after.

  18. Thanks again for your handmade gift :) I dabble in all kinds of hobbies, but I'm too OCD to be freely creative. I can do things like knitting (which is mostly about math) and maybe sewing (with patterns and measurements), but when it comes to creating things out of the air like flower arranging or jewelry making, I'm usually at a loss :\

  19. Nelah, thanks again for your thoughtful gift. It was very nice of you to take time and do all this crafting for us. I love to learn how to sew and be good at it. I think I can benefit so much from that hobby. You are very creative and talened!

  24. The gifts are adorable! I don't think anyone will deny you have creative talent ;) hehe I know what you mean though.. I also love arts & crafts but barely anyone knows about it aside from very close friends and family. There's not much time for people to nurture their artistic sides b/c life is so busy! But yeah I would love to see more creations from you in the future :)
