California Baby & Highbeam Benefit

I am pretty open to the idea of trying all skincare products…whether $5 a jar from drugstore like Walgreen or my local grocery stores to those from high-end brands that cost as much as $130+ a jar…I am willing to try as long as it *works*.

After finishing a 2nd miracle in a jar – Crème de la Mer – that is, somehow it lost its magic touch. I am not sure what but it worked wonderfully during wintertime given that my skin was dry beyond cure and flaked terribly…I mean terribly. However, I find that it works great with another La Mer serum which costs $200-$300 a bottle. Together the two combo punch power pack, they deliver the super duper moisturizing power. The crème absorbs much faster and better. However I am looking at approximately $300-$400 which is a bit TOO much even though a jar lasts me 3-4 months. I will save that when another winter rolls around or look for something else.

For now, I have been “stealing” my daughter’s products…what a shame…I know. There is no age restriction on the products…so why not?? California Baby has been my choice of baby skincare line ever since my daughter was a teeny tiny little baby until now that she is 2 ½ yrs old. I knew right from the start that I wanted “clean” products with very little or no harmful chemicals for my pure baby girl. I did some extensive research on EWG (Environment Working Group) which is a really good informative website that focuses on consumer product safety. I found California Baby brand. Their price points are higher than Johnson & Johnson and other drug store brands in the market but it works great on my daughter skin……and my skin. You can find them at Target too, I know “Babies R Us” used to have them but my local Babies R Us don’t carry anymore. We buy a shower gel/shampoo, a sunscreen and a calendula cream for our little one to use. I have been using “her” sunscreen and calendula cream and love them a lot.

California Baby Calendula Cream: absorbs into skin quickly espeically those with dry skin type. It moisturizes skin without weighting skin down or feeling oily. A big plus is it has this slight cool effect on which is nice to use as a summer moisturizer. I use it on my face and neck at night.

California Baby SPF30+ Sunscreen: I had been using Eucerin sunscreen for ages..literally..it must be at least 3 years. I loved its lightweight property because no other sunscreen I had try felt so light and absorbed into skin flawlessly. However it may be time for a change because I somehow noticed some sun spots on my cheecks, not sure if it's truly effective in sun protection. Anyhow, this sunscreen is not as light as Eucerin but not as heavy and oily as most sunscreens which leave skin with excessive oily sheen. No fragrance is a big plus for those who are allergic to fragrance.

Next up...Highbeam by Benefit, you probably have heard tons of wonderful review on this magic tint so I won't go on rambling much about this one except that I love it. I bought it in a set that came with PosieTint and Benetint a few months ago. It gives skin a nice, subtle and lovely glow. Honestly, I don't know how to use it (under or over foundation) but I just use it over my makeup lol. It turns out alright though...hehe.

Disclosure: I purchased these products with my own money and have no affilation with the companies which sell the products above. My reviews are based on my personal opinions.

On an unrelated story....I was telling my husband the other day that I have my camera for almost a year now but still don't know how to use it. The next day I came home from work, I saw this book on a counter in the kitchen. How sweet is that!?!? Wanna know my little secret? I "HATE" reading manual/instructions. Call me ignorant or lazy but I am. Most of the time, I am pretty "lucky or talent" to be able to figure a lot of things out on my own by trying and experimenting instead of spending some time to read. I know...I know. My husband shakes his head in disbelief all the time. I don't even know what all the buttons on my camera are for and what the heck is aperture!?!?!?!?!? However, this camera is a bit too advanced for my "level of expertise" so I gave in.

  1. You make me wanna go out and search for California Baby sunscreen right now!

You are using a nikon? I've always love their themed advertisements but I heard from lots of photographers that they're quite difficult to use and their cameras are not compatible to other lens. I'm gonna invest in a DSLR too!

I know of mothers who miss their babies when they were still in their womb or when they were still a baby etc. Heh~ Seems like you're one such mommy too!

One thing about this Revlon grey suede is that its application is not as smooth and may end up streaky. I still love the strong grey nude colour though for it complements my skin tone.

  3. Oh, I need that sort of book and I don't even own a DSLR! I've just got a semi-pro, but I'm definitely not utilizing it to its full potential. Poor thing is being used like a regular point-and-shoot :(

P/S: You look really pretty :D

  4. Hi, I've tried La Mer in the past, and found that it was okay but I didn't see the results that would make it worthwhile. The benefit Hi Beam highlighter is amazing though. I'm almost done my first bottle, and I apply it over my makeup too, as a last step. Thanks so much for the post :)

  5. Great post Nelah! I say if a product works for you (regardless of who it's marketed to) then use it! It's always a bonus when it's serves double duty for you AND your daughter and is inexpensive too ;)

I hope you get use out of that book your husband bought you - so sweet of him! Your blog is the perfect way to experiment!
