Home Sweet Home~*

What do you expect in your dream home or an apartment? For me, I love the house with lots and lots of natural light. The brighter, the better. It must also be a one story. My husband and I both hate going up and down the stairs, I know when I am in my senior years I will appreciate a one story house even more.

I wish this house was my house. I absolutely love the decor, the choice of colors are fresh...clean....crisp and cheerful. I love contempory/modern design. My husband and I wandered into several model homes over this past weekend to get some decoration ideas for our empty house and dream about our second home.

We are not serious at the moment. At least I know I am not because the house we live in now is only 4 1/2 years old. We had it built back in 2006 and moved in at the beginning of Jan 1st, 2007. However, my husband feels like it is time for house hunting once again. I think he only loves the thrill of buying new things. Housing market is not doing too good and does not seem to pick up anytime soon. Most likely, it will take months or years to sell. I am happy to be where we are, the house is fairly big for 3 people and two cats. I hate cleaning the most so moving to a bigger house will be an issue for an already exhuasted housekeeper like me. I have alrady had enough trouble keeping up with what we have, I am not going anywhere!

Our house is empty...espcially the walls. I have not done much decoration at all since we moved in. Of course, the first year we spent money on necessities like appliances and such. There was not much money left after the down payment. The second year I became pregnant so our focus immediately shifted. Decoration was not our first priority, saving for a baby took place. After the baby was born in 2009 and until now, we still haven't decorated the house :D I feel more secured having money in an emergency saving account in case something happens rather than having a house load with furniture and etc. but 0 dollar in the bank. However, we plan on doing a small makeover since we have a fairy decent amount in that account. That should allow us to do something small....little by little and finally make this place a home sweet home.

Oh...this bedroom is like heaven.

One thing that I can tell you from my personal experience is - Do NOT have a child until you move into a house. My husband and I made significantly less 4-5 years ago than what we are making now. Both incomes from my husband and I combined were far from $100K but it was still MUCH easier to save when we didn't have a baby.

My husband and I make more now but saving is the hardest thing..if that's even. Having a child is very expensive. Daycare, diapers, formula, toys, gears, doctor fees and etc. can take a toll on your saving. Then you will also have to start saving for their education and that's another chunk of money that will disappear from your house saving fund. If owning a house is your goal, delay having a baby until you settle in.

  2. I love the photos you took, very great decor ideas. And I agree having children is a blessing and although I want to have them soon, I'll be putting it off till we're very financially stable and settled in a nice home.

  3. Hey Nelah, I totally agree, having kids is expensive. It really is all about budgeting and having to sacrifice some things for the time being. But no worries, I feel that when it's time for their university funds I can just sell some of my investment handbags and voila- paid for!! Hahaha. Thanks for the post :)

  4. I am with you on that Nelah! for us were lucky that we got done decorating our house before Kaylee arrived..the only thing we had to do was the nursery but that took months to get done too! We didnt get done decorating..painting until about a year after we moved in. Now that it's all done, I want to get a bigger house so I can start decorating and painting again lol

Yeah I would wait until house market is good..right now it's so hard to sell..I do want to sell our place and get a bigger home in couple years since our house is just a 3 bedroom.

Yes kids are very expensive..we now have to watch on where our money goes..

  5. I love your tips on the house vs. child timing thing. Hubby and I finally bought and moved into a house (vs. our condo before) and now finally ready to think about having a child. For so long everyone would just tell us to have a baby and then everything else would work itself out. Thankfully we're practically, sane, and planners. Now decorating, maintenance, and re-modeling stuff has taken all of our other savings so that's a huge expense too.
