Tales of the PoTTy~*

{Warning: don’t read if you are eating or about to eat, this post is strictly about potty)

If you remember, I briefly mentioned about making an attempt to potty train my two year old awhile back…like several months ago. We were so excited and even bought her a singing potty when she turned two. Heck…nothing happened!

{Her fave potty book, yes we read it about hundred times}

The tales of potty training scared me and my husband. On top of that, our procrastination crept in, we kept pushing it further and further. You know if you are doing this, it means "dedication, patience, determination & commitment". You have to cancel ALL the plans as far as going out or running around doing errands. Forget about it. You exclusively and strictly stay around the potty pretty much ALL DAY.....no kidding!

Month after month spending roughly $80 per month to support Pampers company on two boxes of size 4 diaper and two big packs of wipes started to depress me financially. I forgot to keep track how much money we have spent on diapers ever since my daughter was born…too afraid to imagine. How many diapers go to the landfill…wow that must be great for environment.

This is when a hero came to a rescue. My husband finally took the plunge last week on his days off. Our little one is 2.5 now, ready or not we were going to take this seriously.

Daddy spent two full days around a potty. After one accident and some resistances, he succeeded as far as getting her to pee pee in the potty within a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On the second day, she had mastered and graduated the basic course. She went to the potty every time she needed to pee pee. Yessssssss!!!!

Potty training is tricky and every child is not ready at the same time. Some children learn faster or slower than another.

As long as you have your child in a diaper or a pull-up, he or she will NEVER learn. We made this mistake several times when trying to figure out how to train her. There is no way to know when she pees because these diapers absorb everything…they are sooo good…too good to use when potty trained. Plus she never told us when she needed to go.

One day I came up with an idea to just put a pair of panties on her. Bang! That was it. It is kind of risky because you have to clean up the mess after accidents but it is so worth it. She does not like the feeling of pee pee running down her legs at all. On top of that, my husband takes her to the potty every hour whether she wants it or not, she has to go and sit on a potty. Both combinations turn out to work wonderfully for us. She is not fully trained yet because she will no poo poo in the potty and we still have to work on that.

This Japanese potty training video is cute and way too funny. A must-watch for parents and non-parents. My girl LOOOOOVES it, she calls it "oooh-pa-pa" video. A good entainment for today :D Shall we do the potty dance?

  2. i dont even what to think about potty train, im sure i'll be pulling my hair then. $80 is a lot a month Nelah and Im sure K go through a lot more diapers then your baby girl since she's younger..I dont think I spend that much though. Where do you buy your diapers? Have you heard of Amazon mom? I spend about $30 a box on there.

  3. I'm totally amused by the video! Trust the Japanese to come up with a potty training video cutified. I think I'm sick coz I can't help noticing Little Tiger's little tiger. And I thought the brown "peanut" was cute.

That aside, thank you for sharing about how you are going through potty training with your daughter. It would be useful for me next time.

  4. Yvonne: I usually buy Pampers Cruiser at my local grocery (128 counts per box) @ $36/ box. It is her daycare that changes her too frequently, thus more diapers needed...grrrr. We buy two boxes every month plus wipes. However, we don't need that many now since she wears panties at home 4 days per week (still use diapers at daycare since she denies to use potty there).

Jo: you have a pair of naughty eyes. Bad girl..lol.Is that a rate R?

Yeah Nelah, it is now classified as rate R. Barney video would never have that sort of problem...

  6. Hi Nelah, :-). My Job is assistance teacher in daycare and I had learn so much my five years old daughter and when she is 1 & half years old she was doing well about potty training during a day but night, is just like a nightmare for me. I get up often checking w/her because she get much accident during night and was so difficult. honestly hate washing stinky bed-sheet everyday. I am glad that she totally over about potty training

about kids in daycare we applied to teach them potty training and isn't fun at all but our responsible to be patient and wait. we required to parents bring extra clothes to change if ever they get accident. potty training accident is normal Just give them more time to learn with it.

  7. My brother is 8 years younger than me so I know how to potty train children. It is not an easy task and you are right, you gotta just take that diaper away and go full force right into it! Not easy, and accidents are prone to happen but you are right, it does require a lot of patience. And as a working mom, it's really hard to potty train...

  10. Hi Nelah, as soon as i saw the title of this post, I was so excited (as if anyone could ever get excited about poo and pee- but I do!). Reading your post brought me back to this past August, where we had to potty train little one as his pre-school required us to for september. I was prepared for weeks of accidents, crying and tantrums, but luckily, it took about a week and it was done. The little one HATED being wet, and he learned quickly that peeing yourself is not fun. When we potty trained the older one, it was HELL. It took literally months, it was the most frustrating thing that I had ever had to go through, even birth was easier. But I learned that we had potty trained too early, so we just relaxed and it's when you least expect it, they will get it (for us it was when we were in Disney World a few years back). So congrats on the tinkles in the potty that you've had so far! They really are momentous, right? :)

  11. I feel the compelling need to explain my pervy eyes. You know how some cartoon characters like Donald Duck and other don't wear pants? So I didn't even notice whether little tiger was wearing pants all along till he was presented the new pants. I thought he looked kinda weird with pants and wondered why didn't I think he looked weird all along so I scrolled a little back when he was at the sink and I saw his little tiger.

  14. Oh dear, I am going through potty training hell right now too! My daughter is nearly 2.5 and we are still working on it - she knows when to run to the potty to poop, but still hasn't figured out the peeing part yet. She has at least a couple accidents a day. I haven't tried the panty, no diaper thing yet - not prepared for the mess of it! But I am getting desperate enough to try it out. Right now I am using cotton training pants - they have a thick terry lining that absorbs most of the pee (not all) and have a waterproof outer shell. They let her know when she's peed, but that's about it. Any tips???
