Before I turned 20, my makeup routine was beyond simple..sunscreen+baby powder+brow pencil and voila I was ready to go. Some days I went with bare face. These days it gets more complicated. Skin discoloration, dark circles, age spots, puffy eyes and the list goes on, baby powder won't come to my rescue. I look washed out and tired without makeup.
I am a minimalist when it comes to make up even though I am OBSESSED with skincare and makeup products. I probably spend more money on skincare and makeup products more than anything else.
Smokey eye look is one of my favorite and I LOVE reading beauty blogs and watching make up tutorials but I just don't put a lot of makeup on myself, especially those beautiful bold color eyeshadows (I love buying them though). I guess I would rather see it on other people.
My everyday look is quite plain and boring, I know. Maybe I will be more inspired as I continue to blog.
My everyday items are:
1) Eucerin Sunscreen - I have used it for 2-3 years now and absolutely love its lightweight quality. Do you know how most sunscreens give that sticky feeling once applied\? This sunscreen does not leave that sheen, sticky feeling/look.
2) Afterglow Powder Eyeliner - I do not use it everyday because I don't have a lot of time in the morning and I just can't draw a good straight line on my eyelids! As for this product, it is organic, plant based and NOT waterproof. I hate waterproof mascara and eyeliner because they are so difficult to remove. I espeically like this eyeliner because all you need is water to remove it. However, it comes off easily if you happen to touch your eyelid.
3) Afterglow Organic Color Lock - it supposedly helps the powder eyeliner and eyeshadow adhere to your skin better and last longer but I do not think it helps that much.
4) Afterglow Organic Aloe Concealer - I am quite disappointed on this one. It is so difficult to blend and there is no way I can cover dark circles with this concealer. I saw several good reviews on this item but it doesn't work for me. It sets in my pores and fine lines. I have been using it to cover small spots/discolorations. I am not in love but it may work for other people.
5) Everyday Mineral in Golden Fair (Matte finish) - I previously used BareMinerals but it caused small pimples on my forehead and chin areas. Everyday Mineral is okay in my opinion. Once applied, my skin looks absolutely flawless but 4-5 hours later my makeup starts to melt. It is worse if I go outdoor. This is absolutely not something I should use if I will be outside for a long period of time, especially the humidity and brutal heat where I live is pretty much all year round. I am not a type of person who re apply makeup every few hour. I apply it once in the morning and that's it for me. It may adhere to skin better in the wintertime. I generally apply two layers.
6) TARTE Palette - I have been using eyeshadow to draw my eyebrows. I bought this Tarte palette a while back and out of all these colorful eyeshawdows, blushes and lipsticks. I mainly use two colors for my eyebrows
7) EcoTools Brush - Their burshes are must-have items if you are looking for good quality brushes at a fraction of a price. I purchased 2 different sets and they are still in great shape despite the fact that they have gone through a few cleaning processes. They are incredibly soft but pick up powder/mineral foundation quite well.
8) Lipgloss - clear lipgloss is my best friend. I use color lip glosses on occasion, depending on my mood and how plain I look on that particular day.
As for the blush, I try to avoid using it because my rosecea gives me enough color on my cheeks (probably too much).
What are your everyday makeup items?
My daily routine is still just sunscreen, eyebrows and lipbalm... even though I've recently been playing with some added eyeliner to the mix. Luckily my Shiseido sunscreen evens out my skin tone a bit, but I could probably use some concealer for the dark circles and broken capillaries around the nose. I haven't found one that works too well yet though. Thanks for sharing about your products... I'm thinking about picking up that Eucerin lotion now since I keep hearing positive things about it.
ReplyDeleteI've tried some Everyday Minerals samples in the Intensive formula. The coverage was good, but it had no oil control. I know I have the Matte sample, too, but I can't remember how that worked out for me. Have you tried using a primer beforehand? It may help keep the foundation from melting.
ReplyDeleteI am really bad when it comes to make up. Most of the time, I don't know what I am doing. I purchased most of my makeup products from drug store and nothing is fancy. I'd like to try minerals products one day.
ReplyDeletePetiteXXS: give Eucerin a try it is much cheaper than Shiseido. My friend used to send me one while she was in Japan, my husband liked it more than i did.
ReplyDeleteLove n Salt: good idea, I should try that. I just don't have enough patience to apply so many products on my. face.
PetiteLittleGirl: I know what you mean, I am not a pro myself but I would like experiment with more makeups. I may be better at it one day. As for the mineral makeup, i would suggest that you get it in store if possible so that you find the right shade..hassle free. It is so hard to tell what shade would work when shopped online.
I know what you mean..it's frustrating that men get more "handsome" as they age whereas women get fine lines, wrinkles, puffy eyes, and the works...
ReplyDeleteI use a different Eucerin moisturizer than you but it is also light weight and I love it. I've been a devout user of their products for years now because it's great for sensitive skin!
This weekend I went to Target just to look for the Eco Brushes because they got such great reviews only. Of course they were sold out! I can't wait to go back to actually pick one up and try it out.
Hi Jean: My husband is 6 years older than me but I start to look older than him!!
ReplyDeleteYou may want to look at Walgreen, they also sell EcoTools. These brushes are amazing and so inexpensive. I wouldn't have wanted to try if I didn't hear such great reviews.
I will have to try more Eucerine products.
I'm actually doing a post tomorrow on the makeup goodies I won and I'm showing my daily routine which isn't all that fancy or great :)
