I always enjoy and am willing to try new food with the exceptions of fried insects & worms, monkey's brain or anything unusual (thanks but I pass). In the old days before my little was born, my husband and I would go everywhere for good food...near or far we didn't care. After work and on weekends, we (actually my husband) drove all over the places which resulted in our skyrocketing gas bills and food expenses back then.

We are very fortunate to live in this city where people of all races and backgrounds share the pride of their cultures through cuisine. You do not only take your taste bud to another level but you broaden your boundaries when introduce a new piece of culture into your mouth. We pretty much have access to almost every world renowned cuisine..Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Malaysian, Korean, Japanese, Indian, Mediterranean, American, French, German, Mexican, Italian..you name it.

My food cravings go through different phases. If I find something I like, I tend to eat the same thing over the course of several days or even weeks, then go through withdrawals (almost like an addict huh).

I was not a fan of sushi in the past. The idea of eating raw fish never sounded appealing to me until three years ago. My office is about 5 mins walk from this super busy Japanese restaurant..it is funny that this place is not even owned and operated by Japanese (they are Taiwanese) but their stuff are out of this world (I am not sure how authentic their food is but it sure is delicious!!). I used to eat here several times a week but had to stop raw fish consumption when I was pregnant. I thought I was going to die from the lack of sushi in my diet! Odd enough I do not crave for sushi as much as I used to these days. It is good for my wallet after all because sushi can be expensive. This is what I ordered for lunch today.

My husband is not as adventurous as me. It is probably because I had more exposures to different cultures than he does when I lived back home. Bangkok is one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the world.. beautiful temples, diverse cultures, great food, fun nightouts, gigantic shopping malls and so on. You will see all kind of restaurants and food stands everywhere. My former boss and co workers were European and Japanese. With our work location in downtown Bangkok, we were litterally surrounded by TONS of food choices. Since we all shared the love for good food, we would ventured out and explored different cuisine every week. It is funny that I had more western food exposure than Asian cuisine when I actually lived in Asia and had easy access but I guess I took things for granted. I couldn't believe I didn't even try Vietnamese, Korean, Indian and Malaysian. They have become my newest favorites when I moved to the US.
I just love every rice dish and noodle (what's wrong with that)!! With a new lifestyle we have , we just can't afford to dine out and about as frequent as we wish. I get myself used to cooking more at home and want to continue it as long as possible. It is good knowing what's on my plate, healthier and cheaper of course.
